I don't see them?, I tried typing the search term just "Jarrah" still nothing. I'm in Victoria, Melbourne if that makes any difference?.

Try searching in google or duckduckgo like this:

    bunnings 200 x 75mm 2.4m Sleeper H4 Jarrah

    I get this:

    bunnings 200 x 75mm 2.4m Sleeper H4 Jarrah at DuckDuckGo

    and

    https://www.google.com.au/search?q=b...client=gws-wiz

    Obviously store and locale dependent.

    But you get the idea.

I'm only getting this when clicking on the Bunnings links through duckduckgo and the other:

    Sorry, we hit a snag!

    Try one of these options:

I doubt you will find Jarrah sleepers advertised in Victoria as Jarrah costs a fortune here. Bunnings only have a few Jarrah lining boards advertised as Special Order.

I just found out its store specific, hence the reason I couldn't find Jarrah sleepers. Yeah Jarrah is pretty damn expensive here in Victoria.

Is it normal for thicknessers to leave shiny parallel lines to the stock being put through?.

How pronounced are they? Can they be sanded out with a minimum of effort? If so I probably wouldn't worry too much about it. Having said that the finish does surprise me though. It looks like you've got a bit of snipe there as well, if so that is definitely something you should be looking to eliminate.

I haven't leveled the wings on the thicknesser, I just used it out of the box as a test run so maybe that might have something to do with it?. Having said that the lines are fairly easy to sand out, but I beg the question why should I have to?.

Well, I've leveled the wings which has eliminated the snipe however I still have those ridges which seem to be coming from the blades... Faulty?

I put mine through its paces today.

Thought I might as well go with the biggest job I planned. A bookshelf made from old pine ripped and glued (and not flat at all) 4’ x 1’ x 1&1/4”.

I knocked up a Melamine sled and some wedges and hot glue and it went very well and very smooth.

Until the second last pass when it bogged down, wisp of smoke, and cut out. Fortunately the power board tripped first.

It turns out that my 2100 watt hplv shopvac was not clearing the chips.

No harm done, reset, raised the cutters, vacuumed out all the chips (the little hose kept blocking up again).

Job nearly done but I will need to get a better chip collector, maybe a 2hp HD12 would do.

Dust collection per se is a bit hopeless so I have the double doors on the shed open, let the breeze in, and wear a half face mask. It will do in the interim.

Until the last pass which roughened the surface slightly, I was very impressed with the smoothness of the surface after each pass. A little snipe at the trailing end but pretty sure I can reduce that, and I left room to cut off that part.

    regards.

Just for chip collection I got a HD12 Sheppach cheapie. Assembled it, - it nearly comes out square- and hooked it up. It is adequate for the task but more suck would be better. However adequate is all I need at this moment.

I also discovered it works much better when switched on. (Wearing earmuffs I did not notice I had forgotten and was puzzled by chips accumulating in the tube).

Anyway finished flattening one side, removed it from the sled and flattened the other.

I was right chuffed., almost a moment of personal growth.

A few handling marks to clean off and an edge to bullnose, a bit of varnish and SWMBO will have a very expensive shelf!

Next to thin down the sacrificial jaws for my face vice.

    Very happy.
