Was in Keysborough Bunnings tonight - they had a pallet of them, so if Sth Oakleigh runs out, try them.

They also had a pallet of double packs of a scrollsaw and drill press for $99.

Default Do the $199 units come with double sided blades?

Can anyone who has purchased a $199 GMC Thicknesser tell me whether the blades that come with it are double sided please? That is - is there an edge on each side of the blade? ie. can the blade be reversed when it becomes blunt? (I noticed that replacement blades are double sided.)

    Thanks guys, Interwood

    Default Gmc Sales

Bunnings in Mildura start a GMC clear-out sale on Monday (5 June) and there are about six items, including the thicknesser/planer, and cordless drill - I couldn't find out what else. Each tool will be bargain priced.

Because the patent time limit is over for many big name power tools, the next generation of tools are likely to have the better features copied from all brands, and I'll take a guess the prices will be way beyond my budget.

Thanks to Leon at GMC on 1300-880-001 for providing the answer. Also confirmed that the double sided spares are NOT for the GMC Thicknesser.

Waiting time, after pressing 1 for technical advice was 0:00.0000 !! They have equalled Triton's service boys! Well done. (Almost as good as the West Coast Eagles win today.)

    Have fun.

ok then, what are they for? and if this is the case are spares available for the gmc thicknesser, what do they cost and are they single sided? I bought my thicknesser believing as we all did that i could get double sided replacement blades for $40, i hope i havent been had or the bloody thing might just go back within the 28 day satisfaction guarantee period. I always research the consumables before i buy any tool.

Doug, if you have a look at the product manual, page 10 for the thicknesser on the GMC website you will see a little piccy on the RHS that shows how the blade is seated. The blade is pushed out by a spring while you hold the depth of the knife with the jig supplied. It is because of this spring that the knives are single sided. The good news is that theoretically you could resharpen the knives of there is enough material left. I can't answer this for sure as I don't have the GMC thicknesser rather an old german machine weighing 2tons at work, but the principle is the same
Have a nice day - Cheers

Actually I never thought of getting one because I never liked the idea of disposable blades, but now that I know they are resharpenable (I can even do that myself) I might just go get one!!

What is the world coming to when a post about a GMC tool can exite 10 pages of responses......regardless of how little money it costs, this is a tool destined for the landfill.
