True for the pure form, but I'm pretty sure that in manufacturing, it is alloyed with other elements to improve its casting and machining abilities. Imagine my motorbike sliding down the road when I dropped it, turning into a white-hot fireball as it slid!! Like many other metals used in manufacture - aluminium, iron (steel) etc - they are often alloyed to improve properties.

So you have standard GMC items, (30 day money back, 2 year warranty for non tradies only), Platinum items (30 day money back, 2 year warranty for tradies & non tradies alike) and Triton, which could be considered the prestige range as you put it, but really can also be considered a separate company, in the same way as Black & Decker and Dewalt are.
That's interesting. I was wondering why I didn't have half the troubles others with GMC SCMS's have had. Wasn't aware the "platinum" bit made any difference... I thought 'twas just another marketing ploy.

So, I can still claim any faults under warranty? Ya bewdy! Mind you, it hasn't given me any probs on site in the last 18 months so it'll probably last another 6 before dropping it's bundle.
I may be weird, but I'm saving up to become eccentric.

Agreed, I'm feeling left out as well - purchased a CT330 + dust hood from C/Tec in Brisbane when they had their wood show specials - supposed to cost $849 but got it for $649 - I thought I did pretty well but obviously not as well as the Bunnies buyers. Haven't had the opportunity to use mine yet as I want to build a stand etc for it with longer in/out feed stages.

Cut range is different. The Ebay item
is Cutting Thickness: 5 - 153mm, the GMC is 4.5 to 160 mm planing height. Not a lot of difference obviously, but minor differences like that would indicate a different manufacturer using a very similar design (reverse engineering?).

Have you ever seen a VW Kombi on fire? The engine sure goes up like a fireball in those. I have seen an inexperienced fire crew attack one with water hoses and they couldn't understand why the more water they threw at it the hotter it burned.
Likewise F1 race cars that catch fire on the track, the wheels burn real well.

Very interesting - that would certainly suggest a magnesium fire.

Bunnings Toowoomba have two on the floor and I'd guess they might have a couple more out back. I'm wondering if I can sneak the credit card back out of HWMBO's wallet seeing's I'm still in disgrace from the last blowout

    cheers

for all the members and lurkers in bundaberg region. i counted 17 of them in the local bunnings this morning, 16 on a pallet behind the toolshop where all the gmc compressors and high pressure water cleaners are and one on display in the aisle next to the toolshop near the gmc bandsaws and belt/disk sanders. no price tag on any of them but a quick check at the toolshop revealed that it will scan at $199 even tho they arent advertising that till 5 june

    Yep.
5 June is the magic date. Might even make the front page of the Bunnies cattledog.

Might be a waste of trees advertising something that might be sold out by the way these posts are going. Just about everyone must have one by now and if not they should. I tried mine out this am when I got home form work and after going through the setup I was surprised how accurate the depth adjustment is. Half turn per mm. Timber came out smooth as - only now have to add a dusty to it now that I have spread shavings all through the shed. At least it looks like I'm making something now.Only thing I would complain about was the foam packaging in box did not protect infeed table support arms from getting bent. Didn't take much to straighten out but suggest you look for a box that does not appear to be damaged.
    Cheers to all and enjoy!

Question Are the blades that come with the $199 double sided?

    Hi All,

At least 8 at Bunnings Melville last night.

Question though? The GMC replacemant blades are about $40 and are double sided. Do the $199 units come with double sided blades as well?

I went home and compared the GMC unit to my Carbatec unit, which has served me well - but needs maintenance. The Carbatec unit appears to be heavier in a number of areas - but from experience, you have to treat these units with respect and if you take a bigger number of thinner passes, you get you desired result and the tool lives for longer between maintenance.

Will I get a spare? Or will I wait for the replacement which will be higher quality and at least double the price? Or do I wait for the Triton unit that will also do moulding? Isn't making decisions hard! It would be easier if we knew the cost of the last two alternatives, or had much more cash.

    Interwood.
