Old Dewalt radial arms are excellent. But one thing, they are cheap second hand for a reason, and that is, getting spare parts is easier than getting Saturday nights winning lotto numbers. But if its currently in good nic, and you wont be thrashing it, then 300 hundred is a good buy.

Hi, I have a 740 bought from a friendly neighbour when he was downsizing to a small unit about 5 years ago. Basically a good domestic unit if in good condition, but reputedly not up to par with the early US dewalts. The unit is a Black and Decker unit from the period when B+D owned the Dewalt brand, now Dewalt own B+D apparently. I believe that the units were actually built in Italy and rebadged B+D.

There seems to be reasonable parts availability from Europe and GB in particular, but as is often the case, the people with the parts won't ship to Oz. I aquired the complete instruction, parts and accessory manuals with mine and have them scanned and saved and have supplied a few copies to others.

Units are slightly underpowered but generally good, but you need to be carefull with feed rates etc to avoid loading the motor and stalling it with large cuts. Do not try to operate it as a master in an autoswitching shop vac system, the voltage drop in the vac will make it prone to slow starting and stalling, endangering the motor windings.

Units are capable of accurate cutting, but require carefull setup and maintainance to get spot on and keep there. Don't attempt to tweek or overhaul the unit without the manual, as there are a few traps for the unwary, and specific sequences are essential in the setup process.

Happy to help via remote control if you need help.

Mine is a rebadged Tatry from Italy.

Mine was bullet proof until a while back when the motor had to be rewound - I was told that the wiring was kaput because of the Aussie conditions in spite of always being housed and not in the weather - not really sure how that works but it now works again like new.

The price is certainly reasonable - I have a copy of the manual which I can help you out with if required.

    Regards,
    Bob

    Consider it done Checker.

Just a thought, I would remove your email address from the above general posting to avoid the spam trawlers.

    Regards,
    Bob
