Newer 6” jointers with helical heads?
G’day, Does anybody have any experience with these newer small jointers:
Rikon 150mm 6″ Benchtop Jointer 20-600H | Woodwork Machinery..
I cannot tell if the 6x2 row heads with HSS inserts are a gimmick or genuinely better than the older two or three bladed machines.

As it is with the HSS cutters its hardly any better than strait knives but you can put tungsten carbide blades in when those HSS ones go blunt. Still not a proper helical head however. I looked at a Carbatec one pretty similar to that early this year but went with a strait blade job from H&F instead. I can sharpen those myself. There are so many blades out there now so its best to ensure you, can get replacements, they wont break the bank or something you can sharpen yourself.
Regards
John

That style of spiral is not a true helical head, it's just a straight knife chopped into bits. You'll get the noise benefits, but it won't give you a better finish than straight knives.

With the segmented head you get noise benefits and less load benefits. A slightly better finish than straight blades but not much. Putting tct bits on does not improve the cut only the longevity of the cutters

Thankyou All
I think the ability to replace or rotate the cutters if nicked is nice. Another $100 though.
