Advice required thicknesser planner or jointer
Good evening
My husband I would like to make a timber floor using pallets. The pallet source is HT timber 99% pine We have collected so far 500 or more 400mm lengths, 90 to 150mm wide , 20mm thick.
Our question is, what method is the best or most suitable to prepare the pallet pieces. We have thought about a thicknesser planner Titron, or Dewalt, or purchasing a second hand Durden.
After we have done the floors, we will have no use for it, however our son will do nicely with tools.
Each floor is approx. 70sqm and we have 3.
Please let us know your thoughts.
Thank you.

First thing you will have to do is get more timber...my estimate is that you have approx 24sq metres of timber with very little wastage but you need 210 m2.
You should allow for about 10% wastage so you should aim for approx 240 - 250 square metres.....so you need about 10x your current stash.
As for tools...if the boards are nice and straight with no bowing , you could get away with a thicknesser. If they are slightly warped or twisted, you would require a Jointed to get 2 flat surfaces. This of coarse would reduce the thickness of the 20 mm and then pass these through a thicknesser to get the timber flat and even thickness.

how are you going to finish the floor?
how are you going to arrange the timber pieces -- conventional tongue and grove or parquetry?
what will be under the boards -- a cement slab, joists and bearers, yellow tongue?
how straight are your timber pieces?
I'm thinking that perhaps you might be able to leave dimensioning to the final sandingregards from Alberta, Canada
