A better option is the Sherwood Spiral head thicknesser, as it has a proper spiral head not a segment head like others.

Both thickies are pretty much low spec, suitable mainly for softwoods with an expectation you’ll be doing a lot of hand sanding afterwards; and you need to have neighbours who don’t mind the banshee wail of a lightweight twin knife machine. You will also need to factor in a chip collector.

As you’re new to woodworking perhaps consider joining a local woodworking guild or men’s shed; you’ll be able to learn what machines you really need and how to use them properly and safely.

The biggest mistake that I have made in woodworking is buying crap tools - repeatedly - I must be an expert.

I agree with the suggestion to join a mens shed. This will give you easy access to informal advice, but also access to quality equipment. Also consider doing some courses at your local TAFE or possibly uni.
