    Default Assembling a Carbatec CTJ-381 thicknesser

    I've taken the plunge and bought a Carbatec CTJ-381 thicknesser.

    I've attached the infeed and outfeed tables to the main unit and they are level with the main table of the machine where they meet. However the infeed and outfeed tables slope downwards slightly - about 6mm at the leading and trailing edges.

    Should the in and out feed tables slope down? My understanding is that the main, the outfeed and the infeed tables should all be co-planar.

    There are two grub screws under each in and outfeed table, which if turned, would lift the leading and trailing edges of the tables to make them coplanar with the main table. When in this position, there is a gap between the main table and the infeed and out feed tables.

    Is there a fellow Woodie out there, who has put one of these together, who can give me advice please?

    I have one of these machines and mine is the same in respect to the gap, but yes you are correct those screws are the adjustment for the tables, once the table is tightened against these screw all is well. takes a little fussing to get it spot on.

    Default Infeed and outfeed tables on CTJ-381 - done!

    Thanks shedbound. I'm just in from the shed after fiddling about with the bolts and grub screws. The infeed and outfeed tables are now coplanar with the main table. No gap at top, just the slightest triangular gap at sides and slight gap underneath.

    Thanks for your advice.

    I have brought a thicknesser and after opening the box I have found a lot of oil on the top of the table.
    Are you meant to clean it all off and if so what is the best way

    Is this a trick question? What would you think? Do you want oil stained timber? No course you don't, so yes you clean it off using a rag with a bit of turps soak into it.
