    Default Attention 6" Jointer owners

    So as I've mentioned in the spiral cutter replacement thread I am looking at stocking solid carbide knives for the Carbatec/Grizzly 6" jointers (other sizes manufacturers could happen depending on demand).

    So in short as per the spiral head inserts these will be made with the extra long life and ultra fine K01 carbide - that all my spiral inserts are made from.

    Essentially they will hold there edge for an age and with resharpening will last an age!

    So why the post? Well it's a question of price - given Carbatec sell HSS @40 a set and 18% carbide mix @57 a set - these would be retailing @ 75 a set.

    Thoughts?

    Blimey it was 3 months since I posted this!!!

    Well since I only really order things when I need more than one item these knives have been on the back burner however they are due in the next week or so - BUT - not only will I shortly have stock of the solid Carbide knives but I will also have stock of a 18% tungsten mix knives that I will be selling cheaper than Carbatec!

    So which should you buy? Well the solid carbide will be K01 - one of the hardest and finest available carbides and will cut the hardest timbers and keep there edge for a LONG time - whereas the HSS with 18% tungsten obviously won't hold an edge anywhere near as long as solid carbide.

    Pricing

    18% Tungsten - $45 (Save $12 a set on Carbatec prices - only $5 more than their HSS!!)
    Solid K01 Carbide - $75

    All the HSS 18% knives that I've seen in the past are 18% Tungsten, not tungsten carbide. Can you please clarify which one you have?

    Gah! I am so used to Carbide everything . . . you are correct I mean 18% Tungsten (and I confused the K40 from the suppliers email which were offering a K40 TCT version . . )

    Well the 18% Tungsten knives are in stock and available on the website.

    The solid carbide knives are due in Monday or Tuesday next week.
