What is the best benchtop thickneesser for between $400-$500 ?
I see the masters 909 thicknesser for $300, bunnings ozito for $400, bunnings ryobi AP13AK $450 ( this model is a ap13ak, i read of only a ryobi ap13 on here. Maybe this is a newer model?)
Then hafco have a t-318 for $400 and also a t-330 for $500.
Carbatec have a jet for $450.
There are a few to choose from in this price bracket. But which one and why?
It would also be a good idea to factor in the cost of new blades. If one particular machine you can get really cheap blades for, such as off ebay, then that particular machine might be a better choice???

yeah great mate. i would love a dewalt dw735. point me in the right direction. ohh wait they cost more than what i have to spend. but would love a shelix head too.

I still say this one, it has three blades and cuts almost as good as the shelix and you won't regret it.

A quick check on the net shows that machine available at $550 in the US and £1200 in the UK.

Another vote for DW735. I was looking for a while and scored one second hand in as new condition for not much more than your budget.

At the Day Centre where I help out we had a Carbatec bench top 13" thicknesser that kept falling apart and was very noisy, we now have a Leader Machinery combination unit with a spiral head and is very quiet, you can actually have a conversation about a metre away and hear what is being said..
If you are living in a residential area, it might be an idea to look at that.

If I had the funds, I would get a sprial helical cutter head machine hands down without a question.
Going to have a look in masters at their 909 thicknesser, which looks to be the old gmc brand thicknesser machine. I had a look a the ryobi and ozition thicknesser planers in bunnings, and they are bigger than what I was imagining. The Ozito looks nearly identical the the one on the masters website. Except masters 909 planer has a 2000W motor and the ozitio is only 1500W. So the ozito from bunnings is $400, same machine with 500 more watts of power from masters is only $300.
I can't see the benifit of paying the higher cost of $400 for the ozito or $450 for the ryobi when the 909 is only $300. Unless there is some major differences that I am missing???
