New Bosch Mitre Saw
This has just been released in the US
12" Dual-Bevel Glide Miter Saw/ Model: GCM12SD Check out the video
I was waiting for it to be released here and then decide if it or the Festool Kapex was the go but there had been no sign of it so far. This morning I rang Bosch and guess what, they have no intention of bringing it here for at least twelve months!! . It is ideal for the space it would go in due to the compact front to back dimensions. I guess it is back to the latest dual rail Makita or the Festool unless I want to import it and get a 120V power supply. Not happy Jan.CHRIS

Looks nice. In theory it should be more rigid than tubes.
As for the Kapex, I took a look in the store and I do not see any great advantage to the Kapex over say a Makita.
If you need a saw now, just buy the best that is available. It's starting to get like the computer industry where there is always something new coming.

I guess you could always buy one from the USA - and use a transformer for voltage diff. And the new Bosch seems to have Festool like dust scoop - so dust collection may be better than the norm.
I had a similar dilemma to you before and ended up buying the Kapex. Just Tools had the best online Aussie price at the time and I am very happy with it. However the extra capacity of a 12" saw would be nice.

The main issue is the front to back dimension and the Bosch is ideal for that. I reckon value for money the Makita four rail saw is the next best. I have Festool stuff and yes it is good but if something else fills the need then it gets the nod instead. The Festool drill I bought as an instance had absolutely no competition so I bought that without hesitation but the saw is another issue altogether as I think the other manufacturers have caught up enough that the average user will not notice the difference. What advantage has the Kapex over the latest Makita, dust collection aside for the average user?

Strangely enough, I came to the same conclusion that the 4 rail Makita was the best value as well. For me the critical issues were the ability to be situated close to or against a wall and dust collection. I would have bought the Makita in an instant if these issues weren't paramount to me. I discounted the 12" Hitachi ( which can also be mounted against a wall) because it felt a little top heavy, although it has an excellent reputation.
However having lived with the Kapex for a while, the benefits of good dust collection have become even more apparent. It really is a wonderful change from the unholy mess that the other machines make all over the operator and the workshop. I have seen the most unwieldy enclosures and other contraptions devised by people simply to catch the saw dust that their machines cannot direct to the dust extraction. The Kapex solution has to be worth something in this regard.
