Brand New Jointer - Outfeed Table "Stuck"
Today I purchase a new Carbatec jointer (CTJ-196 i think it was). Got it home this arvo and immediately started assembly. Pulled the box apart and saw that the outfeed table was about 1/2-3/4" above the cutter head - thought "no worries, i'll lower it later when i get to that part". So I began putting it all together; got to the stage where i needed to lower the outfeed table. Loosened the locking nut at the back and nothing. The table didn't move with the adjustment handle under the outfeed table, in fact the handle didn't move at all. I finally got the handle to move with mass amounts of force and rags (hands were all oily from that anti-rust stuff) and turned the handle all the way to where the highest point of the outfeed table would be.
The outfeed table didn't move a millimeter this whole time. It's still just as high above the cutter head as when i opened the box. I can move the handle either way (with force I might add) and the table won't move. So did I get a dud??? Is the table just stuck?? Would a couple of blows would get it going?? I'm a bit annoyed to be honest as nothing ever seems to go right these days...don't know if it's just the operator or not
Any thoughts would be appreciated
Cheers,
Will

Yes - there is a little locking screw/handle at the back of the jointer which i released before turning it.
It seems to me that someone has cranked the table all the way up and jammed it maybe ?

I'm doing a search for some info, the first post was just to make sure you don't try to force it. It can really stuff them up. It may be stuck if someone has lifted the machine by the tables but I'd be looking for other reasons first. I'll get back to you shortly.

Well, a quick search didn't find anything, I was hoping to find an exploded diagram. Since this is a new machine I would call CarbaTec first and see what they say.
Bear in mind that if you knock it around they may refuse warranty on it. Banging it to make it release may crack the castings, best to follow their advice on this one. A few other guys have bought them recently, see here, maybe they can help too.

Yeah I wasn't going to get a lump of wood and start giving the outfeed a beat down (although i feel like it!!)
It's gotta be jammed - it's just so high above the cutter knives, it doesn't look right. I'll call them tomorrow and see what they reckon.
Anyone else had a similar problem?

Grizzly GO452 6" model?
It looks like the Grizzly GO452 model. They have a parts list and manual online too.
The pic shows the lock handle, there seems to be only one. So long as that is released then I reckon the CT guys should advise how to fix it, or replace it.

Yep I agree totally. I've looked at that Grizzly model & it looks much the same to the Carbatec. That manual and the carbatec one only mention to loosen that rear handle screw before adjusting the table.
So i'm sure i'm not the problem, thankfully

Two thoughts though proberly both wrong ,
Each side of the locking handle appear two adjustment bolts to tighten the vee slide are these too tight and locking the vee grove from moving , or are the ones (if any ) on the other side wrongly adjusted
And two is the handle you are turning to lower the outfeed table a left hand thread , that is are you turning it the right wayAshore
The trouble with life is there's no background music.

The adjustment bolts are on either side are loose.
And yes, checked for reverse thread and such

You may have to remove the block under the outfeed table that the shaft (the one you turn with the hand wheel) runs through. Perhaps the shaft has gone right through and now can't come back?
Jet also do a jointer like this. Their manual can be found after a hunt around at http://www.wmhtoolgroup.com/ But the outfeed table control is a different mechanism....with a side mounted handwheel.Ours is not to reason why.....only to point and giggle.

Got the problem fixed now. When I first assembled the jointer it was in the evening & my lighting in the workshop isn't the greatest! There was a fracture in the collar which screws into the shaft of the outfeed adjustment handle. It didn't allowed the collar to stay stationary, hence the outfeed wouldn't move.
Got onto to Carbatec last thursday - they were actually pretty good about everything and immediately posted me a new collar. Received it yesterday afternoon and now my outfeed works like a charm
Thanks for the help guys. Going to give the jointer a good working out this arvo
Cheers,
WILL
