I don't think that anybody thinks that the points you raised are crazy or stupid ..... I felt they were being questioned to gain further knowledge. I for one was interested in what upgrades would be deemed necessary to make the jointer suitable for a modern commercial environment. Whilst the OP may not be using it in a commercial environment it is still interesting information to know as even in a home environment "Duty of Care" is just as important. Whilst not all the upgrades could/would be implemented for a home environment it is still handy to know what is considered to be a higher risk element.
Did your Worksafe inspector comment on the cutter head by any chance? Mine was used in a school environment and I was under the impression it was replaced due to the lambchop guard and possibly the cutter head but based on your comments it may have been more issues.Now proudly sponsored by Binford Tools.
