i have a Carba-tec CTJ-680 thicknesser, how does one change the oil in the gearbox, I can't figure out how to do it. if any one knows how to do it with pictures I would be grateful.

G'day Phil,
Essentially it's the same as the 381, just that the head lowers. In most things from C/Tec, Grizzly in the US is your friend.
Page 31 of http://cdn3.grizzly.com/manuals/g0453_m.pdf details how to change the oil. Something which I haven't done in the three years I've had my thicky, and it's time I pulled my finger out.

I needed that info also so thanks for posting the link. It did not download for me the first time I tried but on a second attempt it all loaded properly and I was able to print it no problems. A far better manual than the Carba-tec version.

I have just changed the oil in the gear box. The old oil was thick honey coloured with traces of black in it, I assume from gear wear. The manual said to replace the oil with 80 W 90 grade gear oil I flushed some of the new oil through the gear box to clean things out a bit and then refilled the gear box. What I did notice is the Viscosity of the new oil was thinner than the original oil I assume that the machines have a thicker oil from the factory to bed the gears in. Any how the machine is running OK and the gearbox sounds a bit quieter. Thanks Waldo again for the copy of the manual.

No worries Phil. I too gave mine a oil etc. Would have been quicker except the manual told me to take off bits that I didn't need to - but, a job done the second time around is always fatser than the first.

Thanks for posting this. I had just about given up on setting up my carbatec properly, but this manual should give me the all details I need.
