    Default Carbatec thicknesser

Having received the flyer last week which advertised that Carbatec (Sydney)'s Sale was on this weekend AND that prices were guaranteed to be as low as this weekend's WWW show, I went to Auburn early on Friday and bought a pile of stuff including the CTJ680 thicknesser. This was a bit tricky as I had promised SWMBO that "yes I would leave work early on friday to go straight to meeting our friends in the Hunter Valley", so picking up the booty was impossible. Carbatec are holding it for me and the next act is to get my (sort of) son-in-law to help me pick it up this weekend... on Saturday of course because Friday is WWW day!
So .... any thoughts on this thicknesser?
I bought it because I've 'destroyed/worn out' 2 Ryobi and Carbatec portable thickessers in the last 2 years AND thickessing with brush motors is my only remaining "neighbour annoyer".
I did also buy the 18% tungsten blades so I'll be fitting new blades very early in my ownership.
I mostly dress my own mill sawn hardwood and resawn hardwood for furniture, chests and boxes.

    Fletty,
I have the CTJ 381 - that is the one with the fixed head and table that rises/falls. I am happy with mine and have obtained excellent results and have also fitted a digital readout system. The guys at Carbatec here in Perth rate both the machines highly. I do not think that you will find any better for the price.

If you have not already brought the 18% knives wait till WWW, you could get a deal off Henry Bros. Mark could supply you some very good knives at the the right price.

    Fletty,
I have the 18% tungsten blades but have to still fit them. The original blades still give a very good result and when they require replacing (probably after dressing some Jarrah) I will do so.
