Carbitec combo not locking in
this combo thicknesser/planer has not been used in earnest for over 3 years.
Had some jarrah laminated boards 25mm x 230mm x 2.6M set the height winder at 24.75 and start setting timber through, as it was moving I can watch the height winder drop about .25-.30mm.
I would it up fully tight, then dropped it as thick as it would go then wind back up to required height, turn the lock handle and ...........down it would go. I gave up after 8 tries.
but someone here must be wiser than meI would love to grow my own food, but I can not find bacon seeds

further to this .............saga.
What is happening is
I set the height for thicknesser and start letting it through, as long as the blades are doing their job timber keeps moving
BUT
slowly the height wheel moves so that by end of 2.4m of timber I am pulling it through and blades are no longer touching.
I have been in touch with Carbatec Adelaide and sent photos. as attached.
I have removed motor and have clear access to the main shaft that is not damaged,
However everything points to something inside the 'block' not doing what it should.
The threaded rod goes in as far as thread and I can lock that in place and manually turn the height wheel either way with no restriction.
quote from Carbatec
We've got the updated model on our shop floor and it looks like either it does extend all the way through or there might be a captive sprung block in the housing that presses against the shaft which might have seized in yours - I'd suggest re-tapping the hole or the shaft and giving everything a squirt of wd40 to hopefully loosen it up.
Unless one of you learned people come up with a better solution and no falling off a trailer and insurance is not on the cardsI would love to grow my own food, but I can not find bacon seeds

Tony, you might have a better chance of some helpful replies if you post a picture of the machine or identify what the model number is. As it is we're all just stumbling around in the dark. Throw us a bone.

If you have a look at this manual - https://content.jettools.com/assets/...475_man_EN.pdf - (it's for a Jet, but they would all appear to be pretty much the same) on the schematic parts drawing on page 35 there is a part called a 'locking shoe', part no. 305, that the locking handle shaft pushes on to the rise and fall column to lock it in place. Is there any chance that this part is missing from your machine or is damaged? It looks like a fairly simple assembly, though it may be difficult to see all the parts. Can you access the area where the locking shoe should be?

that looks interesting.
Will try tomorrow and get camera looking in to see if anything there or missing or the WD40 has had any positive reactionI would love to grow my own food, but I can not find bacon seeds

I think there is something missing from in the hole which could be the "Locking shoe" as mentioned by aldav. Looking at your photo of the screw thread it looks like it is bottoming out on the plain part of the shaft at the end of the thread by the burrs on it.
If it is bottoming out a slug of brass or copper in the hole should fix it and won't damage the shaft that it locks against.

further looking reveals this (excuse the crap quality pic, phone camera through shaft hole and a torch to highlight. This is the 'locking block in question where the shaft threads into carby10.jpg
so how to find out.... my thoughts, loosen this bolt on height adjustment wheel shaft https://www.woodworkforums.com/images/attach/jpg.gif
then undo these grub screws (the dirt is jarrah dust) carby8.jpg and remove the 2 plates either side of block carby9.jpg
I should then hopefully be able to turn the whole locking block piece 90* and have a clearer sqizz inside. I could also undo these grub nuts carby6.jpg with the nut remove from the height winder shaft could I wind the shaft out of the blockk and that would again hopefully allow the whole block and lower the whole block thing out.
whats your thinking.
This is way out of my comfort zone and Ive spoken to 2 businesses in town, both said take it back to carbatec.......oh sure load this on a trailer/sm truck drive 8 hoursI would love to grow my own food, but I can not find bacon seeds

Is your first pic. where the locking lever screws in to? That is an incredibly ugly casting, is the thread even viable? Steel and cast iron don't always play well together, especialy when constant lossening and tightening is required.

when I turn the shaft in, it does bike into thread, well I cannot pull it out.
Maybe its just the photo quality, I think the only way to get a better pic is to (as I said above) remove, undo loosen lower and turn block 90*I would love to grow my own food, but I can not find bacon seeds

not happy Jan.
it now appears that cutting blades and everything else needs to be removed to lift the whole coloum out. heavy as an elephant.
and there is nothing similar S/H that I can see, so that forces me to do this...I would love to grow my own food, but I can not find bacon seeds
