Thread: DeWalt 735 Thicknesser

I purchased the above from ISHIN last Saturday secondhand but still in shrinkwrapped box.......... I must say I had a few reservations commiting to this model given the bad press on blades and noise levels.......

But at $700 I thought it was worth the plunge.

In use, the 735 did an excellent job of correctly thicknessing a 1.5m X 130 X 50 piece of Oregon down to 40mm to enable me to progress my gate project.

I also cleaned up some Merabu decking to see how hardwood was handled and again the results were excellent.

I was left in no doubt that this is a serious 3 cutter machine that provides a truly excellent finish. It also produces a copious amount of woodchips! filling half a rubbish bin quickly!

You do need a proper industrial dust extractor with good filtration to digest the significant volume of air the 735 moves via its 4 inch outlet port. It's so powerful the extractor could probably be switched off!

Earmuffs are madatory with this beast as others have pointed out.

Overall, my first impressions are very favourable with high quality build, substantial engineering count @ 40plus kgm. The 735 provides depth stops and a nice indicator to confirm precise depth of cut ....... And yes 3 a year warranty.

This coupled with a properly designed dust extraction port and a spare set of blades makes the package fairly attractive. How long the blades will last is another issue and will be covered in a seperate post.
