Default What is my used machinery worth?

    G'day

I have just purchased the following used items from an auction with the view to have 3 phase installed at home to be able to use them, however, I have been advised that the installation will be particularly difficult and potentially very costly so, I am now wanting to pick some of you guru's brains as to what would be a reasonable expectation with regard to selling prices. I did get these for a fairly reasonable price (I think) so figure I could now pocket a few bucks in reluctantly parting with them.

So please offer any suggestions as to what you guys think would be a fair selling price for the following.

    Carba-Tec bench saw TS-12r 3 Phase
    LEDACRAFT MB-508L 20" (508mm) THICKNESSER 3 Phase
    Romac 2042 Dust Collector

All items are in really good used condition so I'm just after a guide as to where to start with an advertised price.

    Any help is appreciated.

Before you offload the machines it may be worthwhile finding out if you could use a VFD unit to run them. I am installing a Clearvue cyclone which is supplied with a 4hp 3 phase motor and a VFD which cost about $300. I upgraded the single phase power supply to 15/20 amps.

    What safari said

    or

just swap the 3 phase motors for single phase motors. Easy to do and not all that expensive.

In the home hobby market, 3phase machines are hard to sell because, just like you , not many of us have 3hase connected.

A new12" table saw will cost you at least $1200 . A new 3HP single phase motor would probably cost $250, you could probably get a second hand one for a lot less, so I would say you are in front.

I second the use of VSD/VFD - these are really nice machines and well worth keeping if you can

However for these two machines it is not quite so straight forward.
    Carba-Tec bench saw TS-12r 3 Phase
    LEDACRAFT MB-508L 20" (508mm) THICKNESSER 3 Phase
These are both 5HP units and could be run on a 4kW VSD that costs about ($250 delivered) but you would need to connect the VSDs to a 20A single phase line for them to work safely.
Unfortunately you can't really share one VSD between the machines well you can but its messy

You could run these using a 3HP single phase motor but they would not work quite as well as with the 3 Phase and you would need 15A lines for both of them. If you have to install lines I might as well get 20A lines installed and run a 4kW VSD.

    Romac 2042 Dust Collector.
This is good quality 2HP unit and well worth keeping. A VFD for this unit costs about $140 delivered and will allow you to spin it up to its fully speced 3600 rpm or maybe even a bit more making it significantly superior to a 2HP single phase machine. This VFD could be run on a 10A line.

wow lots to consider then. I will have to weigh up my options and go from there. I reckon I'll at least make my money back if I do sell, but will give all options due consideration.

    Cheers guys.
