    Default dreaming//thinking outside the square

In a bind, have a 6" woodfast jointer and older Ryobi thicknesser, these take up a fair bit of room in shed so daydreaming and this possibility pops up.

sell them both, what $$ would I get, yeah I know, whatever someone is prepared to pay
and in their place buy S/H combo machine, what could I think about and again what $$ figure

Id guess paying $1k max extra but NOT over that, I'll need to sweet talk wifey first.

So ..............am I pipe dreaming or does this seem possible and a good idea.
I would love to grow my own food, but I can not find bacon seeds

I needed another jointer and thicknesser for a big job here on the river ( my other machines are simply too big to bring here) and I ended up after looking at the options with a 10” carbatec combination machine with the segmented spiral head. It cost about $2500 or something like it. I am quite impressed with it, cuts well, quiet, just a little underpowered ( but I’m used to a 6 hp three phase beast). I reckon if I sold it I’d want around $1800 for it. So hopefully that gives you a bit of an idea what to look for.

Another option depends on how much much work will this need to do.

As a weekend woodworker I'm considering making a jointing sled so I can do without another machine.

Shims would allow it to place a face using the thicknesser and the table saw to joint the edge.

I'd say you're dreaming. While I haven't been watching out for them, the feeling I get is that second hand combo machines do not come up very often.

Not sure how often they come up.. I'd been looking at new ones around two years ago, feeling underwhelmed by what I could afford. Then happened upon a 90s Minimax 14" combo with 6ft jointer tables.. cost me $1100, plus $450 to ship (hopefully you'd find something local) and $200-odd for a VFD.

I think generally the best bargains to be had are 3 phase machines, because people are scared off by that. Get a VFD or change the motor over - easy done!

    Tony,
From looking at the other thread, it looks like you already got that bargain. Congrats

You'll be right. Now the question? Have you got enough room for all that conquest?

With selling off as I mentioned and rearranging stuff around we will be OK...at least thats what Iam saying to her)

Starting setting the shed up last year and already its had 2 major changes, now we head for the 3rd....no wonder Iam not making anything.
