    Default Drum Sanders invade!

After a relative famine of drum sander options, it appears things are changing. Firstly, Timbecon have come out with a new range which look good in photos but I haven't seen one in person. Secondly, Carbatec have announced they are stockists of Laguna kit, which includes the widely-lauded Supermax drum sanders. Choices, choices! I'm considering a medium-term purchase and it's the age-old question of money vs is-cheaper-good-enough? Not helped by the observation that the Sherwood appears to be a knock-off of the Supermax, at least as far as the castings etc. are concerned.

    Anybody got an opinion?

Buy a Makita and spend the other $3500 on other tools.

I wouldn't consider any drum sander a medium term purchase. They are one those tools you buy if you really need one. Ie if you're pumping out chopping boards. Similar to Riverbuilder's comments if you're after a medium term sander go get yourself a rotex or belt sander.

On the other hand if you really need a drum sander i'd buy the best one that meets your needs. Ie space, sanding board width, quality etc. Particularly if you've never used one before, they are fussy beasts.
