To the best of my knowledge the 720 was the last of a long line of smaller radial arm saws from DW. I saw one on display at Just Tools in South Melbourne about 5 years ago, beside a larger 3phase unit. The price they had on the 720 then was around $2200, but the unit might have been sitting in the store for a few years at that time. It wasn't there about a year later when I paid my last visit.

I have a 1960's equivalent of the saw and I am fairly attuned to setting them up etc. There are a lot of fiddly adjustments to make to tune them perfectly, and they need regular tweaks to keep in tune. Properly tuned they can do very good work, but they have largely been replaced by table saws these days. I think that would opt for a decent table saw if I was in the market for a $2000 saw these days, but I have a small 1960's table saw as well as my radial arm. Both were bought new by a friend and I bought them from him ten years ago when he was downsizing home. The radial arm is the more versatile of the two, but needs more maintenance. Table saws have become cheaper and much more versatile, while radial arms have remained fairly static, so are a less favoured option these days.

With regard to a sale price or value, this will depend a huge amount on how much your buyer wants/needs the unit, and what other options they have. Your first hurdle will be to find potential buyers. Sadly, I suspect that if your partner paid full retail as reflected by the unit I observed in store, then you will be struggling to recoup half his investment.

If it is a brand new still in the box unit, then it is quite a class piece of equipment, unfortunately very overpriced for the market, but probably priced correctly for the manufacturer and subsequent onsellers to make a profit.

I believe the new price last year for this unit was around $4,300 which is a lot of money for that kind of saw.

Secondhand these units usually run from around $500 to $600 for quite good units to around the $1,000 to $1,250 mark for very good late model units, which appears to be what you have.

The problem is, there are very few customers wishing to have these units when the current market for a sliding saw is covered by the Sliding Compound Mitre Saw (SCMS). These units for cheap reasonable build ones are around $250 to $350 and for middle of the range $400 to $750 and the top end is around the $1,250 mark, all brand new and covered by warranty.

I myself lusted after the Dewalt DW720, but couldn't justify the price, in fact I couldn't even afford it in a pink fit, but I've always hoped.

I would think a price around the $1,000 mark would be a realistic price, possibly a bit higher, but certainly not too much lower to start with. The market place will certainly be a good leveller, but unless you have to, don't rush at some of the invariably super cheap offers you will receive.

This forum is one place to sell, not sure if you can sell with the number of posts you have or your newness yet, Gum Tree is another, failing that there is ebay. I don't think you will be inundated with offers, but there are people out there who lust after these as I do, most importantly and unlike myself, they have the dosh.

Yours, I would expect to get a few hundred more seeing it is new for all the reasons Optimark gives regarding how versatile and portable the modern SCMS's are.

Have had a "few" issues getting into the forum to see replies.
Still in the shed. Two guys came to look but offered $100 so I seriously am not going to let it go for that. Found the receipt He paid $1700.

At $100, they could only be classed as opportunists. Mind you, your partner did well to buy one new at $1700, shame he never got to get it set up and used to it's potential.

You can advertise it on the forums in our Market Place. Set a minimum price you wold be happy with and let an auction determine hopefully a decent price. You will need to take some photos and give details (off box maybe?) and accept bids as they are offered.

This thing is still sitting in my garage. Anyone want to make me an offer that is realistic?? It has been sitting covered since I had to move and I am on the move again. Located in Broadford Vic moving on Feb 10 to Mooroopna. Willing to deliver if necessary within reason. Fired it up today - runs but I have no idea how to use it. Doubt it ever got used. He passed away not long after it was bought.

And yes I am still after someone willing to give tatting shuttles a go~
