    Default Electric motor problems

I recently bought an old industrial planer thicknesser with a replaced single phase, 2HP motor. The motor initially worked fine for planing, but today I tried the thicknesser and the extra load of the blades and the power feed caused the motor to cut out midway through a cut (I had been using it for about 15-20mins earlier). In doing so it tripped the sheds fuse. The motor smelt like burning rubber. After letting it cool, I tried turning it back on under no load and it only turned slowly, and then clicked and shut off.

I am just wondering if anyone knows what the issue could be?

    Thanks in advance.

It sounds like the motor has overheated and cooked off some wiring insulation and will need to be rewired or replaced. Modern motors will have a heat sensor that trips out before a motor gets too hot and does what yours di.
