Thread: Flatten wide boards on narrow jointer?

You could run it over the jointer leaving a rebate (have to do it in one pass) 35mm wide. Then either handplane the 35mm high part away or use a straight router bit with pattern following bearing to remove it. If you have a table saw you might be able to thickness the side down with the blade at full height and rotate 180 to complete, then tidy up with plane or sander.

Many thanks for the warning of doing it in one pass!! I was intending to do it gradually in 1mm passes.

You can do multiple passes if you want to make up a simple jig for the indeed table. 4mm thick MDF or ply 150mm wide and a bit longer than the length of the infeed table. Put a block under one end to stop it sliding forward and you can now run the rebated side at whatever thickness you want until the rebate is 4mm deep.

Thanks Doc, found some nice smooth faced 3mm melamine, cut it to the profile of the infeed, clamped it to the infeed table, then planed each drawer side 2mm using the jointer, in 0.5mm passes. Turned out perfectly.
