Default Hafco PT-300 DRO has gone berserk!

The battery was flat in the DRO so I replaced it. Now the DRO climbs as the blades fall and vice versa. I've tried everything I can think of to synchronise the two, but to no avail.

Has anyone else experienced this or know of a solution?

This might be a silly suggestion, but is the battery in the right way?

A similar thing happened to my digital vernier callipers and I found it was when it gets dirty and the air is humid from rain. What I usually do is wipe down the surfaces with a dry warm cloth and gently blow across the gaps and openings around the digital display with a compressed air line. Don't hold the nozzle hard up to any orifice or gap, I usually hold it about an inch or so back.

If that doesn't do it I use a hot air gun set on the lowest possible setting and holding it well back so just warm air blows across the parts.

A few times even this has not worked and I have had to take it apart completely and wash the parts in alcohol and then use the hot air gun. I have always got it to work again.

Thanks. That's plain weird!. I'll take the battery compartment cover off, remove the battery and then leave it facing the sun... when ever that might next be.
