The second is using it as more of a stop. Say I've ripped a sheet of ply to 600 * 2400 and I want to crosscut it to get a 300mm * 600mm panel. I'll set the fence up at 300 and hang the long edge off the slider. Makes more sense than trying to clamp 300mm on the slider and hanging the other 2300 off the other side.

Hadn't seen one of the F&F jigs before. I'm totally making one of those.
Use the F&F jig and it is quicker and safer than the rip fence with a better surface finish because you can push the table through at an even speed. I suppose I must qualify that by saying that the length of the rip decides what method can be used. A 200mm length of rip fence lives on mine to use as a stop when using the F&F jig.

Wow, thanks guys; I've never used a slider before so I thought I should solicit opinions. I had no idea there would be so much feedback (and not even on topic). Only trouble is that now the C3 has come back on the short list...

Djeddy, there are a number of options you can purchase along with base machine among which is a case that has a saw blade ( cant remember which one ) , spindle blades, etc etc in it. Cheaper way to get these parts. There is also another kit for spares of the spiral head.
Make sure you get the book that is the catalogue of machinery from James it is the stuff of dreams.

Suppose Ive answered my own question but just wondering what you found.
Also do you use dust hood on blade ( 50mm outlet) and how have you set it up with 5" hose?
    Andrew.
You are probably setting the fence too far forward. If the fence is set past the centre of the blade
the back teeth come into contact with the cut edge, but serves no purpose other than to put marks on the face of the cut.
