I have the cheaper T-13B which has conventional cutter blades. Was bought for me as a birthday gift. I've been happy with it so far, but wish I had known in advance as I would have put some extra money towards upgrading to the T-13S. Both are good machines for the dollars - a friend of mine has the T-13S and it does the job better than mine.

A bit of misrepresenting on the marketing blurb. Its not a proper spiral head as the cutters are in strait rows. This subject keeps coming up and less than honest marketing keeps happening. A spiral head has rows of cutters that spiral around the drum so that the cutters sheer cut at an angle. Thats not saying that the machine is not going to thickness wood but the sales pitch is misleading.

I used to own one, it did an okay job.
My problem with it was the noise, think small jet engine loud.

All benchtop Thicknessers are loud just because of the universal type motor they use and every brand is the same. The benefit you get with the segmented head is the cutting noise from the blades is reduced due to not cutting along the whole length of the blade in one action. I have the Sherwood spiral head Thicknesser and it is just as loud as my old Ryobi when just running and not cutting.

looks identical to the carbatec one
Carbatec 13" Spiral Head Benchtop Thicknesser | Carbatec

so yeah as its a fair assumption they probably all come out of the same factory I'd probably just hunt around for the cheapest one

or buy more then 4 china makita knock offs for $180 each and sell them to your friends and family. you can put your own custom label on them
