Price up
They've jacked the price for the thicknesser to $249 now. Also note that the 255mm SCM saw now has a 12 month warranty (from Stanley Tools) and for $199 looks a pretty good buy.
cheers,
Alan H

Snipe????
I thought one of the main benefits of this machine over my Ryobi was that the cutterhead lock was supposed to prevent this. Photos posted on this thread show snipe equal to or worse than my Ryobi, which has no locks at all.
I was thinking of replacing my Ryobi with the H&F 330 a while ago, but if it still has this problem I'm glad I didn't !

that's the worst snipe i found on all the test boards i ran through
other boards showed considerably less than that shown even the other end of the board, snipe was hardly detectable
maybe its something I am doing as I have never used a thicknesser previously

Snipe occurs when the board springs up a tiny bit as the trailing end exits the infeed roller - pressure from the outfeed roller, wood's springy nature and the lever action of the length of the board causes the end of the board to flick up just a little as it is no longer held down by the infeed roller.
It has nothing to do with the cutterhead lock (this just stops the cutterhead from loosing its position due to vibration).
To fix - (1 - easy method) Adjust the outfeed table so that it slopes up just a tiny bit so that there is a little bit of downwards force on the trailing end of the board.
(2 - more complex method) Make a longer outfeed bed to support more of the stock; may still need a slight incline.
(3 - even more complex method) Adjust the bed rollers to be absolutely parallel with the bed, wax the bed to reduce friction, check clearances throughtout with a micrometer and be prepared to make a longer outfeed bed as per (2) and think about adjusting it as per (1).
Adjusting the outfeed table is pretty easy - back off the screws that hold it on, and slip in a little shim at the bottom edge (aluminium from drink cans is a convenient shim thickness to start with) to angle it away from the planer body.
Or if it's a simple folded steel table relying purely on the strength of the steel to keep it square to the planer bed, some gentle upwards pressure can open the angle up a little (best done in a vice so you don't strip any screws!!)

Hi all,
Mine arrived the other day and this morning I unpacked it and started to set it up. The problem is I found a Styrofoam block inside with the winder handle lock handle and rubber feet, but I can't find the other loose parts (page 5 of the manual, lower pic, the only thing I've found is the handle). Those of you who have bought one can you tell me where you found the other bits ? I want to be sure I haven't missed them before I contact deals direct or whoever for replacements.
Bit disappointing not being able to fire it up.
It occurred to me if you can set it for nil cut you could use it for a power feed ? Set it up on the far side of my table saw to drag work through at a constant feed rate. Anyone tried this ?
Anyway..Thank you in advance.I'm just a startled bunny in the headlights of life. L.J. Young.

Well so far your the only response. I only found 1 Styrofoam black with the handles and feet in it. No other parts. So if yours were in the same place I didn't get mine.

Sorry I didn't get a chance to reply earlier. Yes, like ACTChippy my parts were under the cutter head inside the machine. Loose parts were height adjustment winder, cutter lock handle, dust chute, four rubber feet i/c screws, and four extra bolts (for table mount?) as well as a blade setting tool. Might have been a couple of hex keys as well but I'd have to get into the workshop to check those.
Sounds like you need to get back to the supplier.

Oh thank you for those pics. I'm missing the dust extractor aswell.
I got the foam box at teh left but no plastic bag nor dust cowl. I was wondering about dust extraction. Where does it plug in ?
I assume all that stuff was under the cutter head on the feed table together ?I'm just a startled bunny in the headlights of life. L.J. Young.

deals direct
good luck dealing with dealsdirect,my thicknesser was delivered damaged (top cover) .so after a week of constant emails with pictures they sent me a return invoice last wednesday.you have to email them back with pickup details etc and a mobile no.spent another week sending emails,so today sent another email requesting information and even offering to deliver to transport depot.deals direct now say they havent received my emails so my request to return the item has been declined.this i find hard to believe because you have to log on to their site to email them.i think their aim is to keep ignoring hoping you will go away.hope you have better luck

I know. Bloody hopeless. Lucky for me I'm not looking to return it, just get the missing parts, but I'm going to annoy them as much as possible.

I had cause to return a few items to DealsDirect recently and entered into 'live chat' with a couple of their girls. I too discovered that they moved the goalposts and went back on their word.
With my second claim, I made a screen dump of the live chat window for each entry. Lo and behold, they did it again, but the situation was quickly resolved when I declared my hand. Watch them!.
I know you believe you understand what you think I wrote, but I'm not sure you realize that what you just read is not what I meant.
Regards, Woodwould.

Misso: So you've only been messaging them through their website ? not replying to their emails ?
If I were you I'd send them another email, pointing out this forum, how many members it has (Members: 31,838), that they are about to be deleted from the shopping options for all of us, and that we will concientiously spread the word about their poor customer service.
You might also point out they aren't cheap and that they hardly have a monopoly, and that they may find it startling how quickly an online business can go broke when it's customer base dries up.
If you don't I will.I'm just a startled bunny in the headlights of life. L.J. Young.
