So what is the group's consensus about the Talon thicknesser, worth buying ?

Yep, had no problems with mine. Went on-line to get another for a back up but all seem to have gone.
As a few others have commented maybe they were seconds, on closer examination I noticed dings and a few screws missing.
Though has not effected the performance in any way, put through over a couple of hundred meters and it's fine.
Some trouble with wide boards in as much as the extraction shut clogs up but for the savings I can cope with that.
If they come on again get one.
Cheers

Generally works fine for what I paid.
Only thing I have found is that you need to be sure you take off at least 0.5-1mm per pass. Finer passes tend to jam hardwood boards. I guess the blades need to be able to bite into the wood to be effective.
Have noticed up to a 1.0mm variation between jarrah boards passed through on the same setting. Might be a blade adjustment problem ? Would like to get to the bottom of that. Any tips ? Have tried locking the columns.
I have a feeling that better quality blades will improve performance considerably with hardwoods.
Very happy otherwise. Seems identical to the Sherwood model and 1/3 the price.
Cheers

Have to agree with toolbagsplus about them being seconds, the one I got had some small hair line cracks on the top of the motor housing. These don't affect the performance and when bought to the attention of deals direct they credited me some money back. They are a little noisy but work fine. Also agree on better blades for improved hardwood cutting. Good value for money buy, especially when compared to Hare and Forbes identical machine

Talon thicknesser
Yeah mine had a crack too. Definitely bigger than hairline. Doesnt seem to affect performance but I have covered with tape. Dont want dust getting inside the motor housing.
I will ring DealsDirect and see if I can get a credit too-thanks for the suggestion.

Just a heads up for anyone who bought one of these and wants a stand. Hare and Forbes are selling off the stands for $24.20 https://www.machineryhouse.com.au/Pr...stockCode=W807
