Helix head for Dewalt DW735 thicknesser
Dear colleagues,
When woodworking shows were still on, there were couple of vendors selling replacement heads for planers and thicknessers.
I can't remember who they were and perhaps collective memory could help?
I can certainly go straight to Byrd and buy the replacement head but would like to try local vendors first.
Thank you

Yes the Byrd Shelix Cutterhead were being sold by
R.D.G. International Agencies
T/a Woodcraft Supplies
PO Box 12
Howard QLD 4659
Phone: (07) 4129 4644
Mobile: 0418 184 048
Email: [email protected]
But double check with buying them overseas as I’m not sure if they still supply the original Byrd Shelix Cutterhead now. Cheers crowie

Hi Kolosom
I bought mine through Woodcraft Supplies as Crowie has listed above. They were good to deal with. I have the CTS cutterhead, not the Byrd. It was a bit cheaper, goes well and is easy to retrofit. Also reduces the 'wail' from the machine, though you will still need earmuffs.

There are some youtube videos on this subject.
They suggest there are 2 sizes available.
A slightly smaller one for an easy replacement, but that throws the measurement indicators out.
And a full size one that takes a bit more to fit.
I think it's to do with the main bearings.
I don't have a Dewalt so didn't pay 100% attention,
but worth checking out before you spend.

Before you make a final call on the spiral head size I'd call this a must watch...... The video I wish I watched before buying a Shelix (video version 2) - YouTube
It's long but fully worth it.
Essentially the small head means it can be inserted without removing the cutters but then the depth of cut gauge etc is wrong and the rollers may wear faster as they apply greater pressure before hitting cut depth.
The larger head matches the OEM knife diameter and everything functions as normal but you have to remove all cutting inserts first and re-install.
Cheers
Phil

I brought a head from Woodcraft Supplies as others have. Mine was for a 6" Carbatec Jointer and was the CTS brand, the same brand twosheds brought. They were very knowledgeable and good to deal with. I think there was about $200 difference between the Byrd and CTS heads at the time.

Just to pick up on this thread, I've been considering an upgrade to my 10" Sheppach combo. I was considering the Byrd Helix till I watched those videos on the Lux Cutters.
I tried the web site in the US, being mywoodcutters.com and have been for a week now but I always get the same message (DNS could not be found)
Has anyone else had trouble with some of the US web sites lately? And does anyone know of an Australian distributor? My search came up blank.
