HELP: Ryobi Planer Thicknesser
Hi,
I was using my AP13AK table top planer/thicknesser only for the second time.
I was halfway through taking off about 1.5mm from a pine board (second one) and it just stopped and went silent.
The electrical circuit is ok because other tools on that socket still work.
I have pressed the overload reset button a few times and still nothing. Is there anything else I can try or is this a lemon?
PS: I thought the Ryobi planer thicknesser had quite a good reputation which is why I risked buying it- anyone else had the same problem?

My Ryobi I got at Christmas is going ok. I am a novice and going through a steep learning curve.
Ryobi have a good warranty reputation. 3 years replacement warranty , so you should be OK.
I was a fan of GMC warranty once but a bit doubtful now that is why I ponied up the extra $100 to get the Ryobi. I expect mine will be with me for a while as i am making a mobile workbench to house it when not in use.
For what you paid, considering the three year replacement warranty, if you happened to get a lemon it will be swapped over. Keep us informed on how you got on with the warranty. That is the benefit of this forum, if somebody gets screwed all of Australia will know unlike the old days of snail mail.

We have a spare blade setter, they mostly seem to be the same from machine to machine in that size, PM me your address and I'll send to you.

I think the switches in these machines are #@$%! Ours (not gmc or ryobi) has gone twice, last time we replaced it with another type of switch we bought from Hare and Forbes, so far so good. Take the bugger back and get it replaced/repaired.

Update:
Thanks to all who offered advice on this.
Took the thing back to Mitre10 who rang Ryobi. Ryobi wanted me to pay for a courier to send it back to their nearest repair depot.
Fortunatly Mitre 10 discovered that if you are further than 50kms from the nearest depot (which I am) then Ryobi have to pay for the courier which will probably cost them about $100 there and back.
I am waiting for them to blame the customer.
So the saga now begins, weeks of waiting and I suspect that as Mitre 10 can't actually provide a replacement, as they are not allowed to order Ryobi anymore, it will be a repair at best (they just had 4 Ryobi tools back in one week and its not a busy branch, so I bet they are weeping that Ryobi wont be supplying them anymore).
If they offer a refund, can anyone suggest another bench top planer/thicknesser about the same price ($400), which is reliable?
