Need help with Steton T-33 spindle moulder
Can anyone chime in with advice about the chrome handle pictured just above the word “Toupie”. I bought this beast a few years ago and now finally have both three phase power and a mission for it.
I have just performed a general cleaning and explored the features but so far can’t figure out that chromed handle*
*That said...the spindle height locking knob had to be replaced as it was worn past repair, so maybe the same is true of whatever that big chrome lever is supposed to adjust.
This is a 4 kW machine with a 1.25” spindle and it does have a power feeder.
Any information at all would be great.
Thanks,

I will reply to my own thread so that the information goes into the archives:
The handle is actually the main spindle elevation lock. Mine is of course worn to the point of too much play, so I shall have to remedy that somehow.
The knob that I thought was the height lock is actually a friction device for the elevation crank wheel. It's all part of the service here at The House of Pain™

Did you know the name "STETON" is the initials of the blokes who make the machines. When I was in white board cupboards the boss bought a panel saw for the workshop. I think it was a little cheaper than the main stream SCM, Altendorf type brands. We used it for a lot of years before buying an SCM.
Just do it!
Kind regards Rod

I didn’t know that. In fact, there’s not much on any websites about them or their history.
I think the T-33 is a 70’s vintage machine. I cannot believe how crude it is compared to more modern machinery.
I have to perform some kind of repair on that spindle elevation lock because it doesn’t currently lock anything, just adda a bit of friction. And my cutters arrived yesterday from Whitehill so I am itching to get my project completed. It's all part of the service here at The House of Pain™

With any luck, unscrewing the front panel will reveal the locking mechanism and you'll be able to rig up a quick fix; failing that, it might be visible from the back. One of the main reasons I like old machines is that everything is mechanical and basic; easy to build = easy to fix (usually)
