Default ID planer/thicknesser & blade help please

    Hi
I just purchased this planer but no manual came with it. It's my first planer so I have no experience using one. Can any one ID it for me and tell me a little about it. It's a KT-318 made in Taiwan.

How do I go about removing the blades and where do I get new ones from?
How would I set up the new blades when I put them in?

    Any help apreciated.

All the parts are available from Hare & Forbes. That's the good news, the blades are a little exy though and I bought the set up jig from them also. It is a semi circular type thing that sits on the drum and sets the height of the blade above the drum. The blades are double sided so if you pull them out you may find the other edge has not been used.

Firstly unplug the machine, don't just turn it off. There is a cover held on by allen head screws (I think) on the infeed side of the machine, remove this and rotate the head until you have a blade that you can work on. The blade is held in by a line of screws, slacken the nuts and extract the blade, the screws do not get removed. There are other adjustment screws that set the height of the blades.

The Grizzly website has lots of good manuals. Go to their site & see if there's a close match for your machine.

There are a number of good manuals at the Delta/Dewalt site also.

    http://www.dewaltservicenet.com/docu...sh/Instruction Manual/Delta/A15104.pdf

Many woodworking machines are based on designs that have been around for some time. This can be handy when you buy used gear, or some new gear with suboptimal manuals.

    Good luck!
