    Talking Jet JPT-310HH....WOW !!

    Hi all,

Well I've joined those of you on here that own a Jet 310 with the helical head and while this is not a review I just want to say WOW

I got this machine delivered last Monday, then had to go away for work until Friday so finally got a whole day with it yesterday.

Took a bit to get it off the pallet and onto the mobile base, especially on my own, but not too big a deal.

I thought I would spend the best part of the day setting up but no , checked the jointer with veritas straight edge and decided it was so close I would only make it worse if I loosened something. I did muck around a bit getting the fence square but it was only a matter of undoing the 2 stop screw/nuts and setting the fence square and repositioning the stops. The 45 was bang on out of the box. The other thing I did was make a new power lead for it using the original machine end plug and new cord and 15amp plug so it would reach the nearest 15A outlet I have.

Then it was time to make some noise....which was dissapointing cause it's soooo quiet

I jointed and thicknessed the following...pine, redgum, jarrah, spotted gum, sydney bluegum and some blackwood.

    Results...

Pine a bit furry but ok with no tearout....rarely use pine anyway.
    All hardwoods....beautiful

    Tearout....nil
    Snipe....negligible with thicknesser table locked
Noise....earmuffs optional, I still wear them but my dusty is noisier.
Chip extraction....amazing considering I only have a 1hp dusty... in both modes I would be lucky to have a spoonful of mess on the floor after a few hours
Mode change....way easier than my last combo (ML392) with less steps as the jointer stays setup for when you flip it back down.
Accuracy.....the digital readout thing is quite good....checked boards with digital vernier after thicknessing and 0.1mm thicker than machine says it is....happy with that as it leaves some sanding material.
    Finish of wood.....excellent !!!
Finish of machine....excellent also !!! My first Jet purchase, and most expensive one off anything......I'm a happy camper. The Helical Head is a thing of engineering beauty in my books

I am a fan of things that just work, just do what they are meant to do and this machine fits that very well.

I got it from Trend Timbers in Sydney...I have nothing to do with them but want to say I was very happy with the whole deal...price, service, delivery etc...all good. They got this done during the Sydney WW show so were flat out with that but took all my calls, answered emails etc etc. Only issue I have is that I thought it was supposed to come with 10 spare cutters but only got 5. Adrian is sorting this out for me....again a happy camper.

    Closing comments.... WOW

Now it's back to the shed for some quiet buzzing sounds

    Cheers
    Redgy

can i ask how much it cost you?

ps do you think it would handle large heavy jarrah 200x100 x3000..

Redgy - congrats on your new toy

Another thumbs up for Trend too; I bought a JET 16/32 sander from them recently, very happy with the price and service.

Nice to finally have a decent JET dealer in Sydney....although I do tend to end up coming home with timber as well every time I go to buy a machine there !

Stu...I think it will handle that Jarrah just fine with appropriate infeed/outfeed support. Others on here who have had theirs for longer would probably have more accurate assessment though I got it for $3200 plus freight to inside my shed

Mr B...thanks and yep they have been great to deal with

I was an idiot when I bought my JPT-310, didn't get the HH. It was $2000 more. However, Wanita at WWWH in Melbourne matched an overseas price and it now costs $1295 as an upgrade, delivered. Something about the AUD$ being better. I have to bolt it in myself tho'.
Glad to hear the good experience, Redgy. I'm holding my breath for mine.

I'm in the same boat - but only because I bought a 3-phase JPT-310 long before the HH model came out

I've been looking into upgrade helical heads as well. FYI, the genuine Byrd Shellix head comes in around $1500 for a JPT-310, but RG is also now offering a cheaper Chinese-made version (CTS?) for about $950. Both prices presumably don't include delivery.

Do you know if JET provide any instructions on how to install and align their helical head on a JPT-310?

    Cheers

    Hi there

I've just bought a secondhand Jet JPT 310-HH, cheap as....... because it's got no motor or drive pulley. I have sourced the drive pulley but need to get a motor and don't want to pay the $600 pus freight to get to me. Can anyone please tell me or take a pic of their motor ID plate so I can get the correct speed motor. Cheers troops.

    Hi Doug,
Sorry for the quality of the photos.... the identification plate was facing the ground and 6 inches of the floor, so had to use my camera(iphone) in reverse which has no flash on that side. Also light bounced of the aluminium label and I just could get the distance or angle need to a decent shot... hope these help... Below is my reading of the images!
    cheers Gary

Thanks mate, know what you mean about the difficulty, just spent half an hour trying to get an iphone photo of a dodgy solar panel nameplate from under the panel on my roof, sheesh, hard yards!

The speed of the motor looks to be 2800 rpm so should be able to get a motor with that info.

    Cheers!

Also, here is the manual to the US equivalent model. Same specs different power.
