Jet Performax 16/32 Drum Sander Help
I have just purchased a second hand Jet Performax 16/32 Drum Sander and I notice that the infeed/outfeed table belt moves over to one side when put it in operation. I know what the manual says on how to fix it but what do you do when that does not work? I'm thinking there might be more to this problem than just a simple adjustment at the side adjusters.
Also the on/off switch has been removed and you have to tern it on/off at the wall. does anyone know how I should rewire a new on/off switch i.e. what wire (colour) goes to what? Yes, I'm fairly good at fixing things and I will not be taking any chances with electricity unless I know what I'm doing.
I know this machine will be a good one if only I can sort out some of the bugs. A little help from guys in the know will help.

I had a similar issue with a replacement belt on my 22/44, I found flipping 180 degrees helped resolve the issue.
I know its probably not recommened but my replacement belt has been running fine for about 2 years.

No 1, get a sparky to rewire the new switch, it may cost a few dollars , but you will know that it's done correctly.
No 2 yes try reversing the belt, I believe that there should be some adjustment system for the belts tracking.
Any belt drive needs an adjustment system. you could contact the agents, Carba Tech , and ask to speak to the repaired , he would have more idea than the sales staff.

Take it apart and check that the rollers the belt runs on have not delaminated. I know of one where this happened and needed replacement.
Agree, with Jeff, get a sparky to look at the switch, be safe.

.
I will be keeping an eye on this one, my 22-44 is doing the same thing. I have adjusted the bolts on the side but it only helps for a very short time.

I have also had problems getting my 16-32 to track. I picked up a replacement belt from Gregory Machinery this week to try and fix the problem. The new belt was a different brand to the previous belt (which I could not get to track properly either).
Unfortunately, the new belt does not track correctly either. It moves to the right (towards the motor side) at between 1mm and 1.5mm per revolution. The ceramic trackers underneath the bed are the only things that stop the belt moving totally to the right. I have tried putting a lot of tension on the right hand adjustment screw and virtually no tension on the left hand adjustment screw and the belt still tracks to the right at the same rate.
The two different belts seems to indicate the problem lies with the frame, not the belts.
As an aside, it tried a few things with the old belt to get it to track including turning the belt around, minimal tension, maximum tension and full tension on either side (with minimal tension on the other side). I measured the distance between the rollers to ensure they were the same. None of these things helped with the tracking.
I contacted Gregory Machinery today and they have suggested I bring the belt assembly in so that their techs can have a look at it. I will try to do this sometime this week and fit it in around work.
Another member of this site (my apologies as i have forgotten their name) had contacted Jet and they suggested that most of the problems were caused by not using genuine 3M brand drive belts.
I'll keep the forum informed on progress.

Well I got a look at it today and striped it all down. I noticed that the adjusters either side were a little bent so I strightened them. I also put another bolt and a big washer in each back adjuster that does not move as there is a lot of stress placed on it. Reset it all up with new adjuster bolts that move the adjuster forward or back and put a new belt on.
The whole thing worked much better but some more adjustment still needed. It still tracked to the right but much more slowly so I adjusted the right side as per the manual. Seemed to work this time so I marked the rollers with a pen and noted the drift untill I got it right. I did some checking and I noticed on the lefthand side it is 5 mm shoter than the right side outer roller to outer roller along the length of the bed. This means the left side belt is a little lose as compared to the right side but it works OK.
So now I'm all set to do some sanding but a whole day to take apart and reassemble but I'm happy.
