    Default Jointer blade setting?

Does anyone out there have one of these doodads from Timbecon

    http://www.timbecon.com.au/assets/po...roductID=11721

If so, does it work as claimed? I was about to make the same sort of thing myself, but Timbecon have the jigs on special at the moment for around $20.

I've always wondered roughly what strength of rare earth magnet to use (strong enough to lift the blade for setting, not so strong that you can't get them off the jointer without a crowbar ), and whether the cheap rare earth magnets have a flat enough surface. If the Timbecon jig works, at the current price its probably the easier way to go....

    Cheers

I haven't got one of those , but I bought a thing called a "Jointer Pal". Works with magnets the same as the one you mentioned.
Do a "Google" and you will get heaps of info.
Building your own is as good as buying one.
Keep in mind that when using these things , you need to make sure each blade is exactly at top dead center when you adjust them. I put a mark on the jointer fence and have each blade in line with the mark, hold the cutter head in that position (Wedge) and then set the blade.
    Hope this helps.

Thanks for the suggestion - the Jointer Pal looks a bit easier to use than the Timbecon job. I had wondered how easy it would be to make sure the jig held the blade at TDC before locking it in place, and having a scribe line on the fence would greatly simplify this.

Can I ask whether you found a local supplier for the Jointer Pal, or did you buy it in from an overseas supplier?? If the latter, I'd agree that building your own is preferable to paying the freight charges from the US !!
