How are jointer blades and Gib strips fitted
I recently bought an older type Woodfast 6" Jointer but I'm not sure how the "Gib Strip" should be fitted. The machine facilitates three cutters but there's one set of cutter and strip missing. The two remaining sets were fitted as per drawing "A" (as attached) Is this the correct way or should the sets be fitted as per diagram “B”? As there are no longer new parts available I may need to have a "gib strip" made up by an engineer. This raises another question: Is it important to have the hollow curve at the top edge of the strip or could I just have it grind at an angle? If it's not important then I guess I need to have the other two gib strips made with the same profile?
Any help would be appreciatedLast edited by cozywood; 31st December 2009 at 07:00 PM. Reason: Weird codes of some sort had been added to original message

A is correct, and yes it should have a curve it acts as a chip breaker.
