    Default new old jointer. Pioneer

    Hi all,
today i purchased an old 6 inch jointer. brand is Pioneer. Has a 3 phase motor. It weighs a freakin ton.
    it turns on and spins.
Initial search here doesnt find any mention of the brand Pioneer.
I intend to dissasemble and tidy it up.
I dont suppose anyone here knows anything about Pioneer Jointers?
Never used any kind of jointer before that didnt invlolve a lot of upper body work and sweat.
any advice would be accepted. Of course Youtube will be on teh research list and I am hoping there will be one or two threads here about restoring similar machines.

We had a pioneer jointer for 50 years, used almost every day. I only recently sold it as I bought a nice 12” one and couldn’t justify having 2, they’re a great old machine solid as, and at the time, quite possibly still, had the longest beds available in that size cutterhead. They’re pretty simple, just make sure the mutton chop guard works and the spring returns it to cover the cutterhead. Keep it sharp and clean, and it will serve you well as ours did for so long.

the bed is 4 1/2 foot long
Definately needs a guard. there isnt one.
I just watched a youtube with a guy who stuck his hand into one becasue he forgot it was still running and didnt look.(had ear protection and other machines running i think)
Are they as simple as they look? make one up out of ply or a plastic chopping board, put a bolt through it and come up with some kind of spring action underneath.

Yep, that’s about it, they must have a spring to return them, my current one has a spiral spring inside the body of the guard. The old pioneer we had just had a small rod fitted into the shoulder with a spring on that to a screw on the body of the machine, simple. Never, ever, use any machine without the correct guards, ever.
