The motor to jointer pulley ratio is >2:1 (46 mm on the motor and 22 mm on the jointer) so the cutters will be spinning at >5700 rpm.

PS: I have not used the jointer for about 4 years and I have a thin kerf metal cutting blade in the TS section of the machine. From memory the jointer struggled on a full 4" wide cut in hardwood so I reckon 1 HP would work better than 0.75 HP.
    Awwww it's so CUTE

I will only use it for jointing i would imagine, would you be able to send me a picture overhead of the guard? That way i can make the shape as close as i can to stock looking.

Thanks for all the info, ill have to have a think and check which pullys i can find and if i can get a higher HP motor.

    Thanks, Jayce.
Jayce , my unit is the same combo as the one in the newmac link above. I can take an overhead photo and post it for you, but it probably be on the weekend todo list. I had thought mine was a 6 inch till I worked it over a bit, and it turns out to be about 4 and a bit.

    Hi Jayce,

I worked my way back into the shed with torch and leadlight this morning to get some pics for you.

On my unit (original factory setup) the guard mounts onto and pivots from an outrigger bracket mounted to a hex bar installed in the hole visible in the infeed table in your original pic. Should be clear in the pics attached. Also the closing spring is a torsion spring with ends fitting into small holes in the outrigger. I have also scanned the unit sitting face down on the scanner glass with a 6 inch ruller for comparason so that you can get a good idea of the shape.

Larger Gilbro's that i have seen had the guard pivot from a mount cast with the infeed table and used a fairly long tension spring to pull it to the closed position.

My pulley sizes are 2inch head and 3 inch motor, so the unit is geared a bit higher than I thought.
    Hope this helps.
