Default Long lead time - tooling

I think by now we are all aware that there is a long lead time for indented machinery.

I am guessing this material shortage may have spread to toolings - I ordered these cutter heads 8 weeks ago and they finally arrived yesterday

wood workers, be warned. if you are ordering toolings. there maybe potential delays!

    Nice set of cutters there!

Lee valley international orders for items in stock still seem to blow the socks off national orders from other tool manufacturers it seems.

Was very impressed when my Veritas shooting plane and other accessories ordered on a Wednesday showed up the following Wednesday.

    Enjoy the new toys

Seems COVID has really thrown global logistics into a tizz. I couldn't locally source a replacement cutter, effectively a single 100 mm planer blade but constructed from tapered stock, for my Caravagi garden mulcher, so had to resort to a supplier in the UK. Caravagi Italy put me in touch with an Aussie firm who still hold some parts.

After an 8 week wait and numerous unanswered e-mails the supplier advised that its website and purchase system "failed to receive" my order. My card hadn't been debited either. All sorted but annoying waiting that long to find out the facts and very relieved that it was not a well orchestrated scam. Pays to be persistent.

We bought an 80mm high glue joint head from OMAS after Dimar screwed up colossally with their supposedly stackable heads, very pleased with it and their pricing from Scosarg is very good (at least it was 5 years ago)

You have some great toys! Like you YouTube videos but the way. Do you mind saying where you get your tooling from? Also, what’s the verdict on OMAS stuff?

That orange cutterhead iit obviously stacks together but I can’t for the life of me work out why it’s got a 50 mm skewed insert on one side of it?

it kind of sit inside the other cutter block...

some of these cutter heads I have can be used in reverse mode, gotta be careful with the feeder direction though.

An update: I ordered some cutters and a cutter block from Whitehill in the UK on 1 Oct. They were delivered on 11 Oct. Pretty happy with that given the very few passenger jets on that route these days*
