Before you purchase a second-hand machine like the Kity, my advice is to make certain you have a ready source of spare parts. Stuff like belts and knives are likely to require replacement, and over time you might need other parts as well.
I have a machine like the Kity - an Inca - and they were only ever in Australia on a limited basis. Parts can be obtained from overseas, but I would still have much more peace of mind with a better supported machine.
Does this Kity have Tersa knives? If so, be prepared for a shock when you price them. Tersa is disposable - non-resharpenable - but at a price that makes you bleed through your ears.
Kity was good stuff. If you can get spares, and if the price is reasonable, then go for it... as long as the government is perceived as working for the benefit of children, the people will happily endure almost any curtailment of liberty and almost any deprivation. (A.Hitler)

Cheers Ron
Thanx for the sound advice Ron, I am being quoted $1500 NZ and so I am still trying to ascertain what the machine was new.<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-comfficeffice" /><o></o>
It came from a school originally and looks in fairly good nick.<o></o>
However your comments regarding spare parts is very sound, will continue doing my homework.<o></o>
kind regards

Planer/thicknesser
G'day.
Saw your post re buying a planer /thicknesser.
Have a look under Wadkin on 'Trade me' NZ.
There is a 18 and also a 12 inch under and over for sale as we speak.
Wadkin are Pom made and about the best available.
All cast iron. If you need it I have full spec on both these machine and can email same to you if required.
Unless you drop the machine off a truck or fork the only parts you should ever need are belts, bearings and knives and these are always available.
I had an 18 inch one in my shop for about 10 years only sold it cause it bit me.
My own stupid fault. Can now confuse the auctioneers with 1/2 bids.
Have a 12 inch at the moment but am selling it as I have sourced a 12 inch stand alone thicknesser and will pair that with an Ozzie made Barker 12inch jointer.
'Trade me' is a great site bought a great textbook on woodmachining a while back.
Bye for now H.
