Got a fair amount done today. Always takes SO much longer to put one together than to take it apart!

What do you do when you come to a standstill? Why you start another project of course.
Both the bandsaw and the jointer are at virtual standstills waiting on the power issues to be resolved. So I decided to work on the motor for the jointer. I have been working on it off and on but not gotten much done.
This is what I started with.
So far this is what I have done on it. Hoping to get the windings varnished and the center section repainted and put back together this week.Jeff

Motor is done. Ready to fire up and install on the jointer. Of course I don't have power for it yet but working on that.
Unrestored center section when I took it apart.
Cleaned and painted the cast iron frame and I had to revarnish the windings.
Here she is with drying in the sun. UGLY color of green!!
Once it was dry it was to the bench and time to put it all together. I am thinking that once it gets running the bearing will sling out some oil. Some sawdust will collect on the windings and before long the green will tone down some and not be so ugly. I hope.
This last photo gives you a sense of scale. This is one big motor. I can not pick it up! Going to have to get the lift out so I can move it off the bench now.Jeff

G'day Kudzu,
I saw you down on the list of members in here and wondered if you were going to give us an update.
Green windings. So long as it goes hey. This thread is a beaut read Hope you've got another bit of machinery in a corner somewhere so we can follow its progress when this one's over.

It's been a few weeks since I posted anything on these. I have been at a stand still since I didn't have 3 phase power for these machines. Well I have almost finished that project. Not sure if you have the same systems down under or not? But 3 phase is typically used in industry and is not available to me, so I have to build a Rotary Phase Converter to generate it.
Here is my converter. I just fired it up and while I have a couple of minor bugs and some tuning to do it works. I just have to run some wire from it around the shop and I can start back on the machines and get them finished. REALLY ready to see these machines run!
Here is a couple of photos of the RPC ready to go. Hopefully in a couple of days I will be able to mount and start up the motors on these two machines. This has been a long project and I am really really ready to be making sawdust again!

Jeff, this is an amazing thread. It never would have occurred to me that you could refurb a motor in that state. Outstanding
