Omga Radial Arm Motor Rewind problem
G'day guys...Wondering if you can give me a heads up...I have one of the old green Omga 450 14" Radial Arms that needs it's motor rewound...Fine, took it to Statewide Electric here in Norwood SA, got a quote to get it done, but they told me that the shaft had broken away, that they could weld it, that it MAY work, but no "guarantees"...As well as that, it was bloody expensive...So, I am wondering if I can get a new motor that'll go in and do the job, I think that if I get an actual OMGA part, it'll be able to mount right in, but as it is an older model, maybe they don't do them anymore...I haven't been able to track down the agents for them and nobody has bothered following it up from any of the places I have tried...I need to get this ol' bird flying again, or I'll replace it...Any help you can offer?

Photos or some details on the motor would help but just replace it with something of similar size and rating. Is the saw belt driven? I ask because mine is but I have no idea what a Omga 450 looks like.
Those were the droids I was looking for.

I believe all Omga saws are direct blade-on-shaft drive. Ron Mack Machinery is (one of) the Melbourne distributors, not sure if they have an office in SA but they should be able to at least point you in the right direction.

I can imagine that a replacement OMGA motor would be pretty expensive.
You can get other motors of course but it depends on whether it is one of the low profile sort which dramatically lowers your choice. Bricksaws commonly have these type.
You have to weigh up the costs of buying a new motor ( if they are available ) as opposed to repairing the old.
If the main shaft needs work then I'd suggest taking it to a fitter and turner to weld/lathe up a new one then get the rewinders to do the electrical part.

Thanks guys...Good Advice
I appreciate your input guys...Have contacted Ron Macks and they are finding out a replacement price, suggested that it'd be around $500...If so I am rarin' to go...If not I'll find myself a good fitter and Turner...I REALLY miss having this machine at the moment, so if there are any other suggestions lemme know eh?

I have the 610 radial myself..i guess it comes down to who you know..can you post some pics of the broken shaft??
If they are saying $500 for a complete 3ph motor i know it seems a little steep but its worth saving the saw i think.
To get a shaft made is an easy task but i doubt ou would get one made for less than $500.00 Most machine shops i deal with are charging around $100 an hr..and 5 hrs wouldn't take long to fanish quickly.
As to using a different brand of motor i doubt it will be able to fit....The motors have built into the casting a pivot point for doing 45's etc. There was another saw which came out from Italy which was supposedly back door to avoid going through the Aust agents. I think it was called RAS...different colours but the same saw none the less.
