Default Anyone here used an Ozito thicknesser?

I need a super cheap thicknesser on short notice and was wondering if anyone here had first-hand experience with their thicknesser. Obviously it's going to be pretty bleh, but will it at least be usable enough that it actually leaves a flat parallel finish on some pine and oak boards? I'm kind of scared of Ozito products after I bought a mitre saw that needed to be attacked with a file to cut square.

A mate of mine seems really happy with his. He bought it to dress down old, hard and recycled messmate for a job. Timber came up nice and smooth, faces parallel and price was right.

We brought one for our woodwork club as there was limited funds available at the time so the price was right. Very similar build to the Ryobi which is a tried and true machine but without a few bells and whistles and refinement on the sharp edges of metal brackets. The in and out feed tables don't have any locking mechanism on them so when you stand them up vertical they just fall down again, but that isn't a problem if you are just leaving it set up. The height winder can be quite stiff in parts of its rotation but just something you have to deal with. Ours cuts parallel from side to side out of the box. Comes with the blade setting jig the same as the Ryobi.
All in all they are pretty good value for the money.

I had one but up graded 10 years ago. Not sure if its the same as whats on offer today. I recon it was just a rebadged Ryobi as those were the blades I used to get for it. For the money it was not too bad.
    Regards
    John

PS Had a look back but dont have any old pics of it. I can say it did a good enough job of 12'' wide sections of my benchtop.

    John ...
Got one of same vintage. My guess is that it is a rebadged GMC.

Works reasonably well for price. Weakness is the "cog-wheels" for the up and down movement - they are plastic.

Pretty much the same on all brands of benchtop Thicknessers. I had a Ryobi and now a Sherwood and both are the same.
The Ozito our club has, has tight spots as you rotate the raise/lower handle which I believe is coming from those bevel gears without pulling it apart to check.

I have a similar issue with a Hafco / Machinery House one which had very little use before I bought it second hand, but I suspect it might be because the head isn't properly aligned with the lifting screws on both sides.
