Where do I get these planer/jointer blades
Hi there,
does anyone know where I would get replacement blades for this planer/jointer? We bought it second hand and don't actually know its brand/model. We showed the current blades to some tool shops but apparently they are an odd size and nobody knew where to get new ones from. Sharpened for the moment but it would be good to have a back up plan.
I have attached a few pics of the machine itself as well as the blade dimensions. Hoping, one of you has an idea...
Many thanks for reading!

Thanks Rod, unfortunately our size doesn't seem to fit Carbatec either. Tried that.

What Rod said. They look like standard 6" jointer blades.
HSS Thicknesser & Jointer Blades : CARBA-TECThose were the droids I was looking for.

Thanks NCArcher. 158mm converts into 6 7/32 inch though. I'm afraid they might be too short. At least that's what I was told by the guys in the work shops I first approached.

If you want good quality steel knives, you had best go to Henry Brothers - have a look at this: Henry Bros Saws - Bandsaw blades & circular saw blades

I just measured my Carbatec ones. 154mm. They will work fine in the planer head. Just move the fence over a few mm.
Those were the droids I was looking for.

First things first, in the pics you have shown there is no sign of a cutter head guard. I would not allow anyone to use the unit as is without guarding. There is a pivot hole at the side of the infeed table for a swing away guard, at the very least make up replacement swing away for it asap.
Second the blades in the photos do not appear to to be original pattern as the unit is definitely designed to be capable of rebating (notched edge on outfeeed, infeed table extension around cutterhead) while the blades shown are not rebating blades, which are sharpened one edge and one end to produce a clean edge when rebating. The sharpened edge overhangs the body of the cutterhead by 2-3mm to provide clearance from the head while rebating, so the blades are wider than the head.
You should be able to get a set made to measure by your local commercial/industrial saw doctor. They can normally source material in appropriate sizes and grind to suit your sample or dimensions since your sample appears not to be original.I used to be an engineer, I'm not an engineer any more, but on the really good days I can remember when I was.
