Thoughts on planer/thicknesser combo
Hey guys,
So I've stepped up and decided to build my own kitchen. I'll be doing all the cupboard boxes out of melamine but will be doing the doors and bench tops out of celery top pine. This means I'll be on the hunt for a planer thicknesser of some description. I'm located in Tassie and everywhere I have looked has quoted crazy prices for postage (up to 500 for certain machines) but I have found a local supplier who sell the things I want but not sure on whether they appear to be good quality/value.

The Planer Thicknesser C3-310QM has caught my eye here and I was wondering if some experts could take a look at the spec and tell me if they are good value for money.

The price looks good. Do a search on the forums for the ML-392. I seem to recall that a number of members had problems with them some years ago.
It was a gear stripping or a bearing colapsing or something like that. Repairable but a PITA. I could also be wro....wro.....wro not right and it was a different machine entirely.

Am I wrong in assuming the ML-392 is the same machine as the Carba-Tec® 10" Planer Thicknesser - Cabinet Base : CARBA-TEC ?
The photos look exactly the same.
Also I can't seem to find any information relating to the next model up which is the Planer Thicknesser C3-310QM? Does nobody else import these or do they just prefer to go for the ML-393?

If you had to choose between a:
ML-392 combo
or a
Carba-Tec® 13" Spiral Head Thicknesser teamed up with a Carba-Tec® 6" Benchtop Jointer
Which would you go for considering the come in at a similar price?

I would go with the 392.
The bench top jointer is only 6" and much lower power. There will be many occasions when you wish you had the wider, more powerful jointer.
