Powermatic 60A
Hi All,
So I'm considering a new jointer (see prev post ). The Carbatec 8" spiral head looks like a tremendous package for me and what I do but frankly I've been undewhelemed by Carbatec generally over the last 18 months. So while the Ford would be fine, a Porsche would be a pleasure or as I explained to the minister for toys, a fisher and pykel would do but you'd love a Miele.
I've been looking at the Powermatic and specifically the 8" 60A model. I believe it has been superceeded by the 882. I've been offered it for $2260 in 3 hp, 3 phase (or $135 extra for the 2hp, 1ph). I don't know what the price was before the 882 was introduced but it sounds like fair saving over the new model. Does this sound like a good price for a discontinued model or a starting point from the dealer hoping to get the best price?
In general do you think the Powermatic would be a better investment over the long term? I would like to upgrade the cutter to the Shelix head in the near future which would make the cost about $1,000 more that the Carbatec. I've looked at the Jet but don't know much about other options. Is there any other model you think I should be considering.
