Default Price on Hammer A3 31 with spiral cutterblock vs Jet JPT 310HH

I am about the buy a Jet JPT 310HH combination planer/thicknesser from Carbatec for $3299 and am wondering how this compares to the Hammer A3 31 with the spiral cutterblock option.

I found a price on the Hammer of $4384 for the standard version but couldn't see a price for the optional spiral head. Does anyone know what this is worth and would the Hammer be worth the difference?

The spiral head or "silent power" as they refer to it is about $800 extra. It leaves an incredibly clean surface free of tear out. I've only used the Hammer but I know there are many happy Jet owners.

I've decided to go with the jet given the price on the hammer is beyond my means and can't be justified.

I have made an order (subject to paying a deposit) with Gregory Machinery at Richlands (QLD) but they are waiting on the helical heads to come in to fit one to a machine that currently has straight knives. Are there any problems with this and would there be any other differences between the machines other than the cutterheads? (Gregory Machinery claims no)

Psych, I have the Jet which I purchased with the straight knives.
I then purchased a HH from Robert Gregory, I think it's a Byrd brand, which I fitted myself. I haven't looked back, and couldn't be happier with the performance. No difference to the OE fitted ones and I doubt you'll have any problems.
There won't be any difference from a factory fitted HH, they are easy to change over and no fiddly adjusting is necessary that could become a problem later. Good luck with it.
    Cheers, Ian
