sanding drum on spindle moulder
Hi all,
I'm looking for a sanding drum to fit onto the 30mm shaft of my Luna spindle moulder. I haven't been able to find anything in Oz, but I did come across these two:
from germany:
premium drum
from china:
SANDING DRUM dia 100 X h100mm - Detailed info for SANDING DRUM dia 100 X h100mm,sanding drum,SANDING DRUM dia 100 X h100mm, on Alibaba.com
I've emailed both to see if they have an agent in Oz.
I don't have the real estate in my workshop for a dedicated oscillating sander so this seems like a good compromise. Has anyone tried one of these things on a spindle moulder?

try timber tools at danalong.
i would be worried about the dust collection as you would need to move the back guard away for radius sanding.
you can get a nice bench top sander from hare & forbes for around $200.00 and mount it on a mobile base that can lock onto your normal woodworking bench.

Hi Jack, Felder sell them here in Australia, I think they are roughly about $250 or $500 for a set of 3 different sizes from memory.
I've been think about getting one for ages, my main concern is the speed at which the shaper is running, and burning the surfaces.
If you end up getting one please let us know how it goes.

Hi Gaza,
I'll try the mob you suggest. The benchtop sander is starting to look good at $200. The German sanding drum is EUR190 plus shipping!

Hi Joez,
The Felder one sounds about the same price as the one in the link I posted above. I'll have a look at them too. Hopefully I'll get an answer from the manufacturer in China. I suspect they will be a lot cheaper.
I figure the burning sandpaper issue is the price you pay for the convenience of not having to find space for another machine. I'm prepared to live with it. I don't do that much sanding of curved pieces anyway.

Running the moulder at the slowest speed should cut the burning
