I definitely need to spend some more time on my unit getting the infeed and outfeed tables better adjusted, but seeing your setup where you're getting very little snipe will make the job that little bit easier! I will say with mine if the timber is fed through at an angle the snipe is greatly reduced, along with lifting the timber up on the way in and out as we all do.

Dave, i'll throw them in the forum but i'm sort of feeling they may confuse more than help.

I've traditionally got the in/out tables co-planer with the bed and then ensured they didn't flex, by the photo's I wouldn't even call these close

Here is the outfeed bracing... just a section of wood cut accurately to height, looking at the rulers may need to cut a little bit off.

But the confusing bit is that as it is currently set the absolute worst "snipe" i have got is as per the photo, I can't feel that with the fingers nor can i really see it.
It only became visible when I ran the ROS over the top with 120 grit .... 15 od seconds of sanding had removed it.

It's more than good enough to cut to length and then thickness!

Thanks for posting mate. I think I may have the outer ends of my table a bit too high so I'll try and set them better to see if I get any better results!

You're correct in saying that although you can see the snipe it doesn't take a lot to sand it out, that's my experience also. I think I might be chasing perfection on something that's unable to be perfect, but I'll get it as darn close as I possibly can!
The thicknesser only get used once or twice a week for me so I generally find an excuse to not put more time into setting it up, I just use it and generally get a good result anyway!

There might be a few gripes others have with the Sherwood thicknesser but it's the first and only thicknesser I've owned and I must say it really is a great unit. I have access through a professional Joiner family member to a 3 phase 20in Carbatec thicknesser, it has the old school blades and the quality of the finish on the Sherwood with the helical head is much better and it meets my needs beautifully.

For others reading this....

I could NOT see or feel what is displayed in the photo and it was only after a pass with 120 grit paper on the ROS that it was displayed and it looks more like a single pressure line across the board as the timber is not removed towards the edge. This is in my opinion snipe free .... next time I use it i'll run the dial indicator over it to measure this out of curiosity now.

Dave, If your in/out tables are higher then they definitely need to be lower

For all my complaints in this thread let me just say....

Damn Impressive performance from this unit and a very high recommendation level.

Likewise, a quantum leap over my Hafco 12" unit.

I'm happy with mine.

Any one found a digital / PDF version of the manual online?

I see that T/C has increased the price of replacement cutters by nearly $2.00 each.
Was $89/10 = $8.90 each.
Now $65/6 = $10.83 each.

Looks like we are a captive market.

Maybe that will cause perspective customers to think twice about purchasing this machine due to the unique inserts. I can buy inserts for my Jointer from SJE for $3.90ea which are identical except for the 37°angle. Hopefully an aftermarket generic insert manufacturer will come up with the same design at a more realistic price. Pity we can't track down who is supplying them for the Sherwood machine.

Thank you, very much appreciated. Mine is still in that "safe place" which I can't find.

Having the exploded parts diagram at hand has been very helpful. One thing I did notice is a few parts are not labeled.

I wonder how many units have been "refurbished" by Timbecon / Sherwood?

How's this machine been treating you guys since purchase?
I'm strongly considering this machine
