    Post Sherwood $449 12.5" Thicknesser ????

Just wondering if any of you peoples have had any experience or have any advice with regards to the $449 12 1/2" Sherwood Thicknesser that timbecon.com.au are selling.
I need one for just home hobiest work & price is certainly right for me (my budget is around $500), but it does seem cheap compared to everything else out there.
Am I looking for trouble by purchasing the cheapest machine available???
    Any help appreciated,

    Regards
    Greg

Luther that would be A$ around US$250.

Greg - Might be worth looking at Carba Tec's offering for the same price and ask both for a discount. Some of the Carba Tec stuff just has a slight edge on the other cheap stuff that's around at the same price.

    Cheers - Neil

    Exclamation

I have a vague recollection of this one being brought up after the WWW Melb in 2000.
If memory serves correctly there was some concern with the quality (or absence) of infeed and outfeed tables and general quality of construction.
How many support posts 2 or 4, what are the aligning gears on the under side metal or plastic.
Any cost cutting in these area's is going to let you down.
Like Neil says, have a look at the Carbatec machine, I think the 12" is $799 but wave the goodies under their nose and they will often come to the party (not like BUnnies who won't budge and inch).
Generally you get what you pay for and $499 is not a lot of thicknesser.
Realising I paid $660 for mine recently the difference is that it was a wholesaler and the machine retails for $1000+, if you are in Melb there may one or two left.

    Hi Iain,

Yes I am in Melbourne. Can you please give me details of the wholesaler in Melb. I think it sounds like what I am after.
Do they only sell wholesale or can I also buy from them?
    Thanks for any info.
    Regards
    Greg

Recycling an old post again, quote...

He has a lot of gear left and claims it is cheap, even a 12 1/2" thicknesser for $660.00 (3 left).
    There is a 10" for $350.00 and the 6" buzzer is $400.00.
All sorts of gear there and the number, for anyone interested is
    03 9761 8087.
    Kilsyth, Melbourne outer east.

    Wholesaler going out of business.

Few roughies in there Kev, I've used some of those scroll saws and I can assure you they are not a pleasure.
Need a SCMS, but what do you get for $300?
Have you tried the gear at all before judgement is passed.
Looks like a Makita even down to the dust bag, only about $1k difference.
